Community Links
As a school, we are proud of our place in the civic life of the Borough of Blackburn with Darwen and of our strong spiritual links with Blackburn
Cathedral. In late 2008, we were again delighted to welcome the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Councillor Mohammed Khan OBE, and the Deputy Mayoress, Mrs Nasreen Akhtar, to our school (photo courtesy of the Lancashire Telegraph). In April 2009, the Council presented the school with a cut-glass bowl, to mark the 500th anniversary of the founding of the grammar school, at a special ceremony in the Council Chamber.
Pupils are encouraged to represent the school and be active in the community. They involve themselves in fundraising activities to benefit local, national and international charities, help the elderly and those who are disadvantaged, and take part in civic ceremonies, as well as taking part in public speaking and debates.
In this way they can appreciate the practical relevance of the spiritual and moral values which underpin the teaching at QEGS.
As a school we have wide-ranging links with local schools, sports clubs, associations and societies, many of which make use of our facilities on a regular or ad hoc basis. For more details and an enquiry form, please see the section "Hiring our Facilities".
